The product will be distributed free of charge among all of the interested enterprises. As it follows from the market studies, nearly all corporate information systems are vulnerable for internal and external attacks. In some cases users might not be aware of the security vulnerabilities that provide a possibility for unauthorized access. Usually, the actual security failures become apparent only after a serious incident. There is a whole family of products – called security scanners – which are called upon to warn about corporate security breaches. There is a number of commercial scanners on the Russian market that are both reliable and functional. Yet their wide application is somewhat hindered by their high cost. Studies, carried by Jet Info Systems, showed that there are many freeware products in no way inferior to their commercial counterparts. This is the exactly the situation on the security scanners market. “The main drawback of using a freeware product is the absence of quality technical support,” Sergei Kashinski, head of Jet Info Systems technical Center, thinks. Following the research our company decided to update Nessus free security scanner to adapt it to Russian conditions, certify it with the State Technical Commission of the Russian Federation and provide technical support for it.” Nessuss security scanner makes identifies vulnerabilities for all of the currently existing types of attacks: DDoS, password and other access attributes matching, requesting super-user privileges etc. Nessus includes built-in attack prototypes and supports plug-ins, which can be provided by an independent developer or security administrator. The number of available plug-ins is growing steadily and at present there are about 300 of them. Nessus can work under Solaris and Linux. “As this is a functionally advanced product, it can be recommended to various categories of corporate users, from small offices to large enterprises with a well-developed network infrastructure,” Pavel Voronenko, head of Jet Info Systems Information Security Tools and Methods Department, pointed out. Jet Info Systems is ready to provide consultative assistance in elimination of network security “gaps” identified by Nessus. Apart from that, company’s experts can carry out a detailed analysis of information systems to detect vulnerabilities not recognized by the security scanner. In the nearest future a Nessus FAQ page will appear on the company’s server ( www.jet.msk.su ). “On behalf of the Charman of the State Technical Committee of Russia I would like to express my gratitude to Jet Info Systems for its readiness to provide Nessus software package free of charge,” Yuri Popov, head of Licenses and Certificates Depart net of the Commission, stated. “We see it as practical to first install the scanner at the regional technical data security centers, testing facilities and certification bodies accredited within the Commission’s certification system.” At present, Jet Info Systems continues to cooperate with the State Technical Commission of the Russian Federation in drafting guidelines for information security systems check-ups. all news |
